What do you wear to Tokyo?

It's funny what a few hours in Tokyo will do to a person. You loosen up. You catch the vibe. Shibuya is that perfect mix of Seattle casual meets big city hustle and bustle. The vibe is bright, busy and modern. It's got New York's flavor with the sweetness of the Japanese custom for consideration and politeness.

It's the coolest place I've ever been.

Harajuku was the agenda of the day, and I wanted to be part of that world. So I put together a shopping outfit that was 100% me in Japan. The heat was pretty stifling, but the pain in my feet was worse. After having already walked all day for 2 days, my feet were begging for flats. Not just flats, sneakers. Not just sneakers, fluffy cloud shoes sent from the shopping gods. But I wore these anyway.

Because I had waited 10 years to get there. And like hell I was going to wear any shoes but exactly the ones I felt the grandest in.

So what do you wear to Tokyo? Whatever you want. You'll be inspired everyday by the way the Japanese wear clothes. Differently, without apology. There will be casual to whatever you can think of, and it was that way every single place we went, from Shibuya to Harajuku to Akihabara. So be yourself. There is no city in the world as accommodating.

August Arcade Haul from Aomori! Part 1 ❤

We kinda cleaned up this weekend at the arcade. Bear, his friend (who I shall name Swan-san), and I made the 2 hour drive to our favorite arcade in Aomori. We actually went there to scope out a new arcade we had heard of that was supposed to be pretty good. Turns out it was okay, but all the games were really expensive to play. (For all purposes, we'll call that arcade Expensive Arcade.)

I won this first one at the Expensive Arcade. It was kind of an accident. I was going for a One Piece figure and ended up with this Natsume's Book of Friends figure instead. I don't watch this anime, but it's on my list. Natori needs a happy home, so he goes in my store. ^_^

This Super Sonico I didn't win, I found it at a figure store in Aomori. The local figure store sells her for a LOT more than I bought her for. And I love Super Sonico, so I couldn't pass her up.

Thrift Haul!

I haven't found very much thrifting lately...but I did score a few new things this weekend.

I love that jacket. It doesn't look like much, but it will be so cute on. The collar is adorable.

And of course as soon as I saw the pink floral skirt I scooped it up.

The gray plaid skirt is nice and stretchy and cozy. Would be kick ass with some heavy winter leggings, boots and an oversized sweater.

The skirt section never lets me down here.

I'll have a HUGE arcade post coming up soon! We traveled to Aomori again this weekend, and we came back with a few really good anime figures and plushes.

Until then, Happy Shopping!

Japan? But what will you wear?

A long time ago, when the discussion of going to Japan first came up, a rather unpleasant friend of Bear's said something along the lines of, "Oh honey, no offense, but you'll never be able to go shopping there. Everything is so tiny. Japanese girls are quite thin."

I won't even get started on that. But I will say this. Women everywhere come in all shapes and sizes, and each should be celebrated. No fat hating. No skinny bashing.

Even now, a well meaning friend of Bear's warned me not to go shopping in Sendai. "Everything there is tiny. Forget it. It's not made for us."

Well. It may not be. But I love Japanese fashion. And I will wear it. Because they DO make clothes from XXS-LL and beyond. I've seen it. I find things all the time at the thrift shop that fit me just fine.

So there.

If you're a curvy girl, know that there will be awesome stuff in my store that could fit you. If your a thin girl, I got your back too.

Tiny, Tiny Sweets!

I made these last night from a few clay kits I picked up at the stationary store. I almost didn't buy them. So glad I did!

I think it's not too bad for my first attempt! Thinking of making a cell phone case. I can't find anything kawaii for an Galaxy S4...

It's the little things.

Went to the arcade. You'll hear that an astoundingly frequent amount of times if you follow this blog. We like the arcade. It's like gambling, but you almost always win. It's the satisfying "CLUNK" of whatever you won hitting the bottom of the machine next to the door.

I won my first figure for myself last night. (I'm always winning them for Bear.) I think she's awesome.

She's Super Sonico. And if you want to know more about her, you can check the article 'Who is Super Sonico?'

She's has some hips going on, and she has pink hair. So I admire her.

Happy Shopping. ❤

Weekend Thrift Haul!

Small haul this weekend. We spent Saturday at a festival here in town, and Sunday we went to our usual weekend spots.

I got these at a re-sale shop in Hachinohe.

My favorite has to be that lace crop top. As usual, I saw it as I was leaving. I always find the best stuff when I'm not looking for it.

Happy shopping!

Paul & Joe Lipstick! ❤

I've been wanting something (anything...) Paul & Joe for a long, long time.

A couple of days ago I finally went and bought some lipstick.

I hadn't ever really seen the makeup in person anywhere until we were strolling through Shimoda Mall one day and I saw a Paul & Joe display in a makeup store. I was stoked.

The sales woman was super sweet and helpful, even though we spoke pretty much none of the other's language. (We spoke the international language of 'I ❤ makeup') She let me try on the lipstick I picked out to make sure I liked it. And then. And THEN.

She said, "KAWAII!"

Sold. She said I was kawaii.

I didn't know, but the lipsticks sell as refills and the actual package or case for the refills are sold separately.

For both it was about $30.00.

She also gave me a few really cute samples. One of a primer and one of a powder.

So cute right? I love the packaging. This is shade 204.

The color is kind of sheer. It is from their range of natural finish lipsticks. Love the way it feels. Weightless.

Not sure why this looks so pink here. It looks a lot more like the color below.

Sheer orangey-peach.

So there you have it! New Paul & Joe.

Happy shopping! ❤

Then I remembered I don't read Japanese.

But I tried to use this anyway. I muddled my way through the instructions with Bear's help. Sounds kind of shady to use hair color without knowing how, right?
I LIVE ON THE EDGE.

I bought this very cute at-home color from a drugstore here, and I tried to change the color of my hair without bleach. (A girl can hope for a miracle right?)

It didn't work.

But it did work on my roots, and it turned into a really interesting color. It lifted really well to a dark strawberry blonde. It's surprisingly non-brassy.

But now, I have two-tone hair. So it looks like I'll have to bleach it if I want to change it. I tried to find bleach here, but I'm not that adventurous. So, I'll have to order it online.

I really, really want to have pink hair. I'm going to keep trying.

Happy shopping.

Funding the obsession.

I was cruising tumblr the other day and came across a girl selling her thrift finds.

I was happy to see it.

It means people actually do it!

She stressed her shop is a hobby, and I understand that completely. I see things all the time that I love and want to share with people.

So I decided to do the same.

If you liked the Dr. Martens from my last post, they have turned out to be a big snug on me. So there they are, in my store.

Check it out in the side bar, or click addictedtojapan.storenvy.com!

Eichi Matsunaga Nails!

These are so cute! There were 4 or 5 really, really awesome styles, but I'm a sucker for anything with a sugar skull, and these seemed so fun! (And reminded me so much of Texas.)

I purchased these at my favorite beauty place in the Fantasy Dome Mall in Hachinohe.

These came with sticky-pad gel adhesives for each individual nail. They stay on fairly well, (better than any other press-on nail I've used), but these still don't stick well enough for anything more than a day or two. I wouldn't do anything "heavy" with these on for sure. They might be a different story with regular nail glue, but I'm not sure.

I wanted to link a place online that you would be able to purchase these, but I haven't found any site in English that carry them. I tried the obvious Amazon and Ebay, but no luck. However, if you want to venture to Amazon.jp, here is a link for a different style. http://www.amazon.co.jp/ウイングビート-EICHI-MATSUNAGA-nail-chip/dp/B00BXZFMGS

Pastel nails!

Here are a few things from the haul in Hachinohe! <3

Love that this came with a double sided dot tool! I had been thinking of buying one from Amazon, but never got around to it. As soon as I saw this I was sold.

This is a polish from the huge rack of polish in the last post. There was so much to choose from, but this finish caught my eye. Each polish on the rack was swatched, so it was easy to choose. I wish they would do that everywhere!

I also found this little kawaii pack! The picture suckered me in even though I had my doubts about being able to get a good result. But...

I think it turned out alright! This also came in a few different color combos, and I'm definitely going back for the rest!

And last but not least, I found these perfect lashes! These are so wispy, and I think they'll look amazing on. Plus, they have a thin base. The thinner the band the easier they are to put on!

The best part of this haul? Each of these were pretty inexpensive. The most expensive item was the polish with the dot tool. It was around $6.50.

Can't wait to post on the rest of the results!

Happy shopping!

Nail Heaven is here in Japan.

Just went to the Fantasy Dome Mall in Hachinohe. It has a magical store full of beauty wonderment.

More specifically, it has the best selection of nail polish and supplies for nail art I have ever seen.

Behold.

So kawaii.

I did buy a few things, so a haul will be coming soon.

Misawa Living: An introduction to Gloom.

It was the last night of my trip to Japan. I was sad and already feeling far away from R and the new and exciting land I had fallen in love with. We were on our way home from the mall and I saw a shopping center I had my eye on all week. I had been hesitant to go in at first because he had never been there either. (He's my guide! He NEEDS to be in the know!) Being the super adventurous people we are, we ventured in. We walked around for a bit just to scope the place out and ran into an arcade in the middle. Now, let me tell you, arcades in Japan are serious business. They are ridiculously cute, addictive fun, and the prizes are way cooler. Plus you actually, you know, win stuff. (Unlike here in the States where it's impossible to win and the prizes suck anyway.)

Examples of things you spend way too much on but actually win.

All was normal and well until we stumbled upon the cutest prize ever. A little bear dripping blood from his cute little muzzle and giant claws. Doesn't sound cute you say? Well.

The Pink One was the first won, followed a few days later by Fluffy here.

They're pretty darn cute. Unfortunately, we had run out of time and yen. The store was closing, and I'm not one to be a rude American, so we left and I said a sad goodbye to my bear in the machine. The next day, I said a sad goodbye to Japan. Weeks past, but my mind still occasionally wondered to my un-won bear. The morning of my birthday, my noob sent me an email. It was a picture of my little pink bear on his couch! Being the sweetheart he is, he went back and won it for me. Since then, my collection has grown considerably. Even R's friend has gotten in on the action and won me a bear. (He's a cool dude. Obviously.)

From left to right: Snowball of Doom, The Pink One, Ninja, Fluffy, and Hard Candybear.
I later learned the official name of these bears are Gloomy Bears and some are pretty collectable. (It seems like so much in Japan is!) I love them! They're new, different, and exciting to me, just like the place where they sit patiently waiting for my arrival.

I'll get to see them very soon.

Right now I sit writing this on a warm night in Houston. I'm here visiting family before I leave and it's hard not knowing when I'll get to see them again. My whole life they've been a (kind of) short drive away. In a few short weeks, I'll be across the planet.

This Texas girl is going to Japan ya'll. And you're coming with me.

If you're interested in following my adventures in Japan, please follow my Misawa living blog at Meetmeinmisawa.blogspot.com.
